Happy New Year mga teh! As the anniversary of The Adventures of Teh approaches, na-realize kong ang dami na palang ganap na hindi pa naikukuwento ni Teh. :3

Ngayon, nais ikuwento ni Teh ang mga ganap sa unang roadtrip kasama ang mga bago niyang set of friendships sa kanyang bagong trabaho (last June 2013 pa, bagong-bago 'di ba hehehe).

So out of the blue, nagkayayaang mag-roadtrip ang mga kabataan sa opisina. At ito ay tinawag naming "The CY Principle"... :))

Back then, it was a Thursday night when the roadtrip commenced. Holiday kasi ang sumunod na araw kaya pinush namin ang roadtrip. We left Manila at 9PM...

Stopover: Jolibee :D

~ 1st Stop: NLEX ~

Activities: Dinner + Tawanan

Duration: 30 minutes (10PM ~ 10:30PM)

Nag-stopover muna kami sa NLEX para mag-dinner. Mahirap atang bumiyahe nang walang laman ang tiyan. Salamat sa Jolibee para sa pantawid-gutom. :D

~ 2nd Stop: Pier One, Subic Bay ~

Activities: Chillin', Drinkin' (para sa hindi nag-drive), Piggin' Out

Duration: 3 hours (12MN ~ 3AM)

So nagpakalayo-layo sina Teh and friends para lang tumambay sa bar by the bay. Dalawang banda ang naabutan namin kaya medyo sulit ang stay. Rak kung rak! :D

Kain-kain habang nakikinig sa banda at nagpo-program si CY. :))

At siyempre, dahil may mga uminom sa amin, hindi puwedeng mawala ang mga pulutan. Well, astig rin namang mag-program ng kung ano sa computer habang nakikinig sa banda. Umiinom sila, pero si Teh bawal uminom. Relyebo kasi ako sa pagda-drive. Mahirap na. Gusto pa naming makauwi nang buhay. :)))

Next destination sana ay Potipot Island. Kaya lang nalagpasan namin. So kami ay umusad na lamang sa Alaminos. Along the way, inabutan na kami ng sunrise. Hay ang sarap sa pakiramdam na masilayan ito... :)

~ 3rd Stop: Hundred Islands Docking Area, Alaminos, Pangasinan ~

Activities: Breakfast, Souvenir Hunting, Photo-ops

Duration: 1 hour (6AM ~ 7AM)

Puwede ba namang hindi kami kumain ng famous Pangasinan Bangus during this stop? Near a diver's statue in the docking area, may nakainan kaming karinderya. Mura, malinis at masarap. :)

Dahil ito ay roadtrip, medyo wala sa plano namin ang pagsakay ng boat for Hundred Islands sightseeing. So namili na lang kami sa docking area ng souvenirs.

At least man lang sa malayo, tanaw namin ang ibang islands ng Hundred Islands kaya dito na lang kami nag-picture-picture. Hehe.

~ 4th Stop: Somewhere down the road to Enchanted ~

Activity: Photo-ops

Duration: 15 minutes 

As we rushed along the ravenous path towards the Enchanted Cave in Bolinao, Pangasinan, (yehesss, meganon), huminto kami saglit sa isang pampang para mag-picture-picture. Kahit hindi lumangoy at bumuo ng sand castle, basta may pictures. 'Yan kami eh. :))

~ 5th Stop: Enchanted Cave, Bolinao, Pangasinan ~

Activities: Swimming time (yey!), Photo-ops

Duration: 4.5 hours (8:30AM ~ 1:00PM) 

Dizizit! The highlight of the roadtrip... Dito kasi kami nakapagtagal nang bonggels. Sa labas, mala-garden ang aura. Tapos pagkaakyat-baba sa isang hagdan, matatagpuan ang mismong Enchanted Cave.

Miming time! Yey! ^_^

Sabi sa amin ng aming guide sa loob, tubig tabang ang nasa loob ng cave at kapag high tide ang dagat, tumataas din ang tubig sa loob. Bukod diyan, every 5~8 minutes napapalitan ang tubig sa loob ng cave nang hindi namamalayan kaya siguradong malinis ang tubig dito. (Basta walang pasaway sa loob...)

Crystal clear ang tubig dito kaya kahit malayuan ang underwater pics, kita pa rin ang kinukunan ng picture. Paalala lang mga teh, bawal po jumingle dito habang nagsu-swimming dahil ito ay freshwater. :D

Ang ebidensyang malinis at klaro ang tubig dito. :D

~ 6th Stop: Resort ???, Bolinao, Pangasinan ~

Activity: Lunch (sana...)

Duration: 15 minutes 

Nakalimutan ko ang pangalan ng resort na ito dahil walang maihaing lunch sa roadtrip team ang restaurant dito. While deciding, Teh grabbed the opportunity to take photos ng dalampasigan dito. 'Yun lang. :3

~ 7th Stop: Bolinao Seafood Grill ~

Activity: Lunch (totoo na 'to...)

Duration: 1.5 hours (2:00PM ~ 3:30PM)

Dahil natagalan kami sa paghahanap ng makakainan, naparami ang order nina Teh and friends. Mabuti na lang at matatakaw kami kaya naubos ang food. Masarap ang pagkakaluto kaya seafood cravings are satisfied. :))

~ 8th Stop: Susie's Cuisine and the Shop Beside It ~

Activity: Pasalubong hunting (na fail)

Duration: 10 minutes

Dahil sarado ang Susie's sa Concepcion, Tarlac, we checked out the store beside it. Only to find out na wala pala kaming mabibili in the end. :))

Sarado ang Susie's. Wala ring mapili sa kabila. Hay...

~ 9th Stop: Meryenda at CY's Place ~

Activity: Meryenda (malamang)

Duration: 1 hour (8PM ~ 9 PM)

Since nasa Concepcion, Tarlac na rin lang kami, binisita na rin namin ang bahay ni CY. Ice cream break bago matapos ang roadtrip... :3

Nakakapagod ang roadtrip na ito. Sa naaalala ko, 29 hours gising si Teh at 1 hour tulog during the roadtrip. Pero sobrang saya. Puro tawa ang ganap. :)))

Koryah Pre-Adventure Tips ni Teh

Hope you are well, mga teh! Ngayon, samahan si Teh in the adventures in Seoul, South Koryah (Korea)! Pero bago 'yan, sasabihin ko muna sa inyo ang mga dapat ihanda at paghandaan sa pagpunta sa Seoul...

Teh lost in the 2nd best airport in the world... :3

~ Mga Paghahanda (at Nalimutang Ihanda) for Koryah ~

Kung kayo ay Philippine Passport holder, kakailanganin ninyong mag-apply ng tourist visa for Koryah. Maski hindi pa kayo nakakabili ng airline ticket, makakakuha pa rin kayo ng tourist visa dahil ito lang ang mga requirements (for employed Filipinos)[1]:

1. Application Form ~ you can download on this link)

2. 1 pc. of Passport size colored picture ~ mas maganda kung may collar sa picture, parang 'pag nag-aapply ng trabaho

3. Original Passport ~ should be valid for more than 6 months, dito kasi ipi-print ang visa 

4. Photocopy of Passport Bio-page ~ 'yung page kung nasaan ang pangalan, birthday at date and place of issue ng passport

Anong mali sa picture na ito? >_< (10 pts.)

5. Original Certificate of Employment ~ dapat may contact number, address of company and date of issue

6. Original Personal Bank Certificate ~ tip lang mga teh, mas convenient kung may account kayo sa BPI. Agad-agad, makukuha niyo na. Antay lang ng konti. :3

7. Photocopy of Latest ITR (Income Tax Return) or Form 2316

8. Original & Photocopy of valid visa/s and arrival stamps to OECD member countries for the past 5 years ~ optional lang ito mga teh, kung meron kayong visa sa mga OECD Countries. Paalala lang mga teh, hindi counted ang Korean Visa.

Na-realize ni Teh, mas practical unahin ang visa instead of plane ticket. Pero madali lang namang makakuha ng tourist visa, basta kumpleto kayo ng requirements. Mabilis pa ang pag-evaluate ng requirements. Si Teh, dumating sa embassy ng 8:30 AM at natapos ako ng 9:00 AM. Walang inip factor. :3

By the way, ito ang schedule ng pagpapasa at pagkuha ng visa:

9:00 AM ~ 11:00 AM - visa applications submission (safe kung latest na punta eh 10 AM para sure na tatanggapin)

2:00 PM ~ 4:00 PM - claiming of passports

Ngayong may visa at plane ticket na si Teh, naghanap naman ako kung saan ako matutulog. Kung tulad ko, naniniwala kayong ang lodging dapat basic lang kasi tulugan at taguan lang naman 'to ng gamit, Teh suggests that you find a hostel or guesthouse para makamura. Pero kung wala kayong magawa sa pera, tumira kayo ng 4- or 5-star hotel. :D

At katulad ng mga nakaraang adventures ni Teh, unang-una kong tinitignan yung mga feedbacks sa hostel or guesthouse. Kung nega, ekis agad. Pero kung malinis, gora na. Next, inaalam ni Teh kung may sariling banyo ang room. Pero kung okay naman sa inyo ang shared bathrooms, go for a dormitory. Mas mura 'yon kaya lang risky kasi may iba kayong kasama sa kuwarto. 'Pag nagkawalaan ng gamit, nganga. :O Lastly, inaalam ni Teh kung maganda ang location ng guesthouse in terms of distance from subway and/or bus stop. 'Pag 5 minutes away or less lang from subway, keriboom! :)

Sa lahat ng hinahanap ko, pasok ang Choi's House. May sariling banyo, maganda ang feedback sa agoda at malapit sa subway, around 3 minutes walk. Also, 5 minutes away lang ito from the Airport Limousine Bus Stop kaya convenient pa rin. Para kay Teh, sulit ang room kahit maliit ang space kasi meron halos lahat ng puwede kong kailanganin. Condo-type ang room, kaya naman may sariling lutuan at washing machine pa. Kahit pang-2 days na damit lang dala mo, keri! 'Yun nga lang, sa picture, paulit-ulit ang damit mo. :)))








A cozy room, I should say. At doon sa lobby, unlimited ang drinking water, tea, coffee, cereal and other American breakfast goodies. ^_^

Next thing that you will need for the travel is, of course, pera. In Korea, the currency is called Korean Won (KRW). (Exchange rate: PHP 1.00 ≈ KRW 25.00) Tip lang mga teh, kung may time kayo, umorder kayo sa banko ng KRW kung mapapayagan kayo sa branch of account ninyo (yep, dapat  may sarili kayong bank account). Kung hindi puwede sa branch niyo, you will need to acquire an endorsement from your branch of account para makabili ng 3rd currency[2] sa other branch na nagbebenta no'n. Pero, kung matutulad kayo kay Teh na last minute lang nakapag-prepare (gawaan kasi ng grades nang mga panahong 'yan T_T), magpapalit na lang ng US Dollar (USD) or mag-withdraw na lang sa airport ATMs. Kung magbabaon ng USD, tip ulit. Mas palabas ng arrival area, mas maganda ang exchange rates. Mali lang talaga ni Teh, dahil excited ako, sa looban pagkalagpas ng immigration ako nagpapalit, doon sa Hana Bank. Nag-panic din kasi si Teh, thinking na baka wala nang pagpapalitan ng pera sa labas. Ayan tuloy, laking lugi, promise. Parang tapon pera. Nakakaiyak... T_T Kaya mas maganda mga teh, kung mag-withdraw na lang kayo sa ATM. Promise. Hashtag: #Bitterla #Nganga. T_T

Pagkatapos maihanda ang visa, plane ticket, bahay at pera, pinaghandaan din ni Teh ang climate ng Korea on my adventure days. Depende sa season, magbaon ng damit na naaayon sa klima. Nagpunta ako ng late October kaya nagbaon ako ng mga damit na pang-Autumn. Medyo overestimated ko ang lamig sa Koryah kaya napabigat ang dala kong gamit. Before leaving for Korea, check the temperature forecast first. Kapag nasa 15°C~18°C ang forecasted temperature, okay na 'yung dalawang layer. Isang inner shirt na panlamig at isang jacket or trench coat. Parang Baguio coldness lang, mga ganung uri. Pero kapag bumagsak ng 10°C~14°C, dapat mas makapal na ang jacket mo. Noong last day ni Teh, bumagsak ng 12°C ang temperature at mahangin pa kaya mas makapal na ang sinuot ko. Infairness, mega enjoy si Teh sa pagrampa in Koryah dahil fashionable in nature ang Autumn Wear... :3

Siguro for safety na rin, gumamit ng one-time use plastic locks para sa mga zippers na hindi niyo feel bilhan ng padlock pero gusto niyong makasigurong hindi kayo mawawalan ng gamit tulad ng nasa bag na ito ni Teh. Salamat kay Darlene-sensei the explorer, na-discover kong hindi lang pala ito pang-packaging ng mga wires ng saksakan at price tags sa damit. :)))

Last na, mga teh. Kailangang magbaon ng ganitong uri ng AC Adapter para sa power sockets sa Koryah kung nais makapag-charge ng mga bagay-bagay. Ito ang nakalimutan ni Teh. Buti na lang, yung charger ng camera ko ganito. :3

So I guess, wala na tayong nakalimutan, mga teh. Puwede na tayong rumampa sa Koryah! ^_^

~ Arriving at Koryah ~

Submit these forms to KISS ♥ and Customs. :D

Anyway, just like any other international destination, you will be required to fill in the Arrival Forms to be submitted to the Korean Immigration Smart Service (KISS in short, very creative hehe) and to the Korean Customs.

Take note that South Korea's timezone is GMT+9. Dahil ang Pilipinas ay GMT+8, pagdating ng Koryah, you will need to advance your clock by 1 hour.

Since Gimpo International Airport has been partially replaced by Incheon International Airport, the new main entry point from the Philippines to South Korea is the Incheon province. Nasa western outskirt lang naman ito ng Seoul, parang Bulacan with respect to Metro Manila.

Teh was very impressed with Incheon International Airport. Imagine, sa loob ng airport, may train shuttle pa from Arrival Gates going to immigration. Gano'n siya kalaki. No wonder that this is one of the best airports in the world. Ranked 2nd in the article of Business Insider as of 2013[3].

In reaching the heart of Seoul, you have three options. One is to ride a taxi, specifically yung color orange. Marunong daw kasi mag-English ang mga drivers ng ganitong uri ng taxi. Kaya lang, masyadong mahal ang pagtataxi. Aabutin kasi ng KRW 65,000 ~ KRW 70,000 (PHP 2600 ~ PHP 2800) ang bayad. Malayo rin kasi ang Incheon to downtown Seoul. Kaya kahit pinaka-convenient ang magtaxi, hindi 'to ginawa ni Teh. Kemahal! :(

Fasten your seatbelt while riding the limousine bus. :3

Another option is to ride the AREX (Airport Railroad Express). This is the cheapest (if non-express) option but very inconvenient kung marami kang dala. A ride to downtown Seoul Station costs around KRW 3,700 for non-express/commuter (arrives every 6 minutes) and KRW 13,300 'pag non-stop/express (arrives every 30 minutes) to Seoul Station[4].

The 3rd option is to ride the Airport Limousine Bus. Ang kagandahan kasi ng bus, hindi na kayo paakyat-panaog sa hagdan. At porters pa ang bahalang magpasok ng baggage niyo sa estribo. May claim tag pang ilalagay para sure na kayo lang ang makakakuha ng sarili mong gamit. Bus fare is KRW 10,000. If staying at Choi's House, ride the bus number 6011 at arrival gate 5B or 12B then alight at Sungshin Women's University stop. Ito ang ginawa ni Teh. :3

~ Adventure Necessities ~

Sa mga tulad ni Teh na mas trip ang mag-DIY tour, tip lang mga teh, kumuha ng mapa sa airport o sa guesthouse na tutuluyan ninyo. Kaya natuwa rin si Teh kay Mr. Choi ng Choi's House kasi automatic binigyan niya ako ng mga tourist maps pagdating. Promise, ang laking tulong.

Kung DIY tour ang inyong gagawin, sure akong subway ang magiging sandigan ninyo sa paggala. Kung ako sa inyo, mag-avail kayo ng T-money card. KRW 2,500 yung mismong card (remembrance na siya kasi non-returnable) plus yung amount na nais i-load sa inyong card. You may buy from the airport or convenience stores. For 5 days, KRW 20,000 load is just enough. (As in, KRW 50 lang natira sa card ni Teh. Gano'n ka-exact. Hehe.)

Of course, hindi naman puwedeng rampa lang tayo ng rampa sa Koryah. Kailangan din nating kumain. Sa bawat lugar namang mapupuntahan, 'wag mangamba sa makakainan dahil meron at meron kayong matatagpuang kainan malapit sa mga tourist spots na pupuntahan. Nabuhay si Teh sa pagkain-kain sa mga local Korean karinderyang hindi ko alam ang mga pangalan. (Hindi ako marunong magbasa ng Korean eh... T_T). Pero naaalala ko naman kung saang malapit na tourist spot sila matatagpuan. Dahil favorite ni Teh ang noodles at kimchi, party-party talaga ang bawat kain. :D

Korean food (at naligaw na cake). Choose your pick. :)

Kapag nanawa naman sa Korean dishes, nandiyan ang mga convenience stores and fastfood chains tulad ng Lotteria, Dunkin Donuts at McDonalds. :3

And for our last necessity on the list, pagbili ng baong tubig! Kung sa tingin ninyong mahal ang bottled water sa Koryah, actually depende 'yan sa kung anong brand. A 500-mL bottled water typically costs from KRW 500 to KRW 1000 (PHP 20 ~ PHP 40). Kahit sabihin nating malamig ang Autumn, kailangan pa ring mag-hydrate dahil mahahabang lakaran ang ginagawa ni Teh sa isang araw.

Walk ~ Discover Saigon

For the last stretch in Ho Chi Minh City, let's explore the city center by foot! Yes, you read it right! Walk to discover Saigon! Para magawa ito, humingi ng mapa sa inyong hotel receptionist. They should be able to provide you one. Our very friendly Saigon Mini Hotel receptionist did give us one. Thank you! ^_^

Brace yourselves everytime you cross HCMC streets. XD

It is not really hard to explore HCMC landmarks. Just find Dong Khoi street, decide where to start and to end. Then before you know it, marami ka na palang nabisitang landmarks. :3

Just a piece of advice mga teh. When exploring HCMC, expect a buwis-buhay scenario while crossing the streets. Hindi hihinto ang pulutong ng mga motor para patawirin kayo. I tell you. Don't say I didn't warn you. Pero achieve na achieve ang feeling tuwing nakakatawid si Teh sa mga kalye ng HCMC. Wagas lang. :)))

So Teh and Ria decided to start the DIY walking tour from the Saigon Opera House. Judging its location on the map, magiging efficient kung dito kami magsisimula. Obviously, wala kaming plano pumasok sa mga bibisitahin naming landmarks. Mas bet naming magpicture lang sa labas ng mga ito, dahil building architectures ang talagang gusto naming pagmasdan at maalala. Ito kasi ang kakaiba sa Saigon ~ a city fused by Western and Eastern architecture. You can see British-inspired buildings, American-inspired buildings and of course, Vietnamese-inspired buildings. Pero mga teh, since Vietnam is a Buddhist country, specifically Mahayana, may mga Chinese-inspired structures din sila, tulad ng mga temples nila.

1st stop: Saigon Opera House

Anyway, moving on, we hopped from one intersecting street to another along Dong Khoi Street. Pakiramdam ni Teh, naglalakad ako sa isang kalye sa Europe. Renaissance ang peg ng mga buildings dito. :)

Medyo fail, kasi likod ng City Hall ang nakita namin. >_< Pero on the other side, we saw some Vietnamese making tambay by the flower gardens para chumika at magkape. Coffee break instead na yosi break. Hashtag: #HealthyPeople. ^_^

Finally, we reached the end of the street, at bumungad sa amin ang napakagandang cathedral na ito. The Notre Dame of Asia... ♥

And beside the Notre Dame Cathedral is the Saigon Post Office. Also inspired by Western Architecture. ^_^

Pagkagaling dito, medyo naligaw-ligaw pa kami ni Ria sa kakahanap ng Reunification Palace. Kaya ayun, napabuwis-buhay ulit kami sa pagtawid-tawid kung saan-saan. >_< 

Anyway, this is a special place where the civil war has ended. It is where the North and the South were reunified... :)

Few blocks away from the Reunification Palace, you will find the War Remnants Museum.

Pumasok kami sa loob ni Ria dahil may time pa kami. And we wanted to see na rin these cool war machines. The machines are cool, but the war ain't cool. :(

And of course, hindi namin pinalagpas ang chance na tumingin ng Vietnam War pictures and news clippings. I felt proud na rin when we saw a photo of a protest in Manila against the civil war in Vietnam. Truly, Filipinos, together with the rest of the world, are sympathetic regarding this matter... :)

And our last destination was the Chua Vinh Nghiem Pagoda. Hindi keri lakarin ito mula sa War Remnants Museum kaya nag-taxi na sina Teh at Ria papunta rito. Mura naman kasi ang taxi rito. Pero paano nga ba namin na-discover ang pinakamagandang pagoda sa HCMC? Well, we asked a local resident. Salamat ng marami ulit kay Ate Receptionist ng Saigon Mini Hotel. ^_^

As much as Teh wanted to buy lotus flowers for offering, I do not know naman how to use them. Mag-wiwish ba ako? Magdadasal ba para sa namayapang kamag-anak? I really don't know. :| Anyway, lotus flowers are really beautiful... ♥ 

First time ni Teh na makapasok sa isang Mahayana Buddhist Pagoda at sobrang nagandahan ako sa temple na ito. Sana pala, namili ako ng insenso para sa pagdadasal. Pero puwede namang magdasal kahit walang itirik na insenso. :3

Wishing for a good life... :)

Very oriental man ang itsura ng temple, may mga similarities pa rin ito sa isang typical na Theravada Buddhist temples ng Thailand at Cambodia, most especially the Garuda design sa edges ng temple roof. Very beautiful. :)

Demons ba sila? Hmm...

Sa mga Christians, ang tingin natin sa demons ay masama. Pero, sa mga Buddhists, they consider some demons as gods, parang sa Greek and Roman mythology. More of being death god or god of nuisance. :S Wala lang, nabanggit lang ni Teh dahil sa labas ng temple, may mga bantay na mukhang demons. Kamukha nila kasi 'yung mga demon illustrations sa Ramayana epic. :3

And finally, to complete the temple visit, we went inside. I prayed here, even if I was born Catholic. I just believe that God is omnipresent kasi. So kahit saan ako sumamba, maririnig Niya ako. :) 

Medyo creepy lang, kasi sa loob nakakita kami ng mga pictures na naka-frame. Pictures kaya ng mga namayapa 'yun? @_@ Naawa ako noong nakakita ako ng picture ng baby... :(

But truly, masaya si Teh dahil na-checkan ko ang isang task sa aking bucketlist in life - to visit a Mahayana Buddhist temple. :3
